FREE Winter Activities in Vail


Wednesday Art Walks: 3:30pm each Wednesday from January 2 to April 3, 2013.
Meet at the Vail Village Visitor Information Center on the top level of the parking structure for a free guided tour of Vail Village and the public art collection with the Town of Vail's Art in Public Places Coordinator. After an introduction to the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum, the tour winds its way through the Village with discussions of the history of the Vail Valley, the founding of Vail mountain, the master planning and the importance of site-specific art in creating the charm of the Village. The Town's public art collection includes 40 works ranging from sculptures, murals, playground components, and site-integrated art. For additional information call 970-479-2344. Go to Calendar

Vail Library Story Time every Tuesday and Wednesday. Kids enjoy interactive story time and arts & crafts. See the calendar for times.

Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum: Located in the upper level of the Vail Village parking structure, learn about the history of Vail, skiing and the 10th Mountain Division with interactive exhibits and a unique gift shop for all the skiers and snowboarders on your gift list.

Walking Tour of Vail Village: Vail locals and visitors alike can learn the history of Vail Village's past, see present landmarks and hear stories about its firtst generation of residents. Tours take place from 2 to 3pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, departing from the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame. Call for more info: 970-476-1876.

Beaver Creek Mountain Welcome Tour: Complimentary 2-hour guided ski tour of intermediate and advanced terrain. Call 970-754-4636 Go to Calendar

Rail Jam Session: Rail Jam takes place on the snow in front of McCoy's near the Centennial Express Chairlift. For levels 5 (intermediate) and up. Must bring your own equipment. No cost to participate but a waiver signed by parent or guardian is required. Participants must register in the Children's Ski & Snowbaord School.

Beaver Creek Thursday Night Lights: Participate in a glow stick ski-down set to music followed by a fireworks finale. Level 5 skiers (intermediate) or above are welcome to participate. Parent or guardian approval is required. Participants must bring their own skis, snowboard and gear. Register at the Beaver Creek Children's Ski School. 970-754-4636 Go to Calendar

Disco Skate Night: Get your groove on every Monday evening from 6 to 8pm. Guests of all ages can enjoy 70s music and free ice time complete with a light show at the Black Family Ice Rink in the heart of Beaver Creek Village.

Complimentary Nature Valley Snowshoe Tours: Enjoy a guided tour under the evening sky. Complimentary Atlas Snowshoes provided, and hot cocoa and cookies await your return. Tours depart at 4pm on Tuesday from the Beaver Creek Nordic Center located at the bottom of the Strawberry Park Chairlift (#12). Recommended for ages 6 and up. Family Fun Fest: A village-style carnival complete with games, prizes, caricature art, music and (the two weeks before Christmas) Santa! From 4 to 5:30pm on Sundays.

Beaver Creek Family Friday Afternoon Club: Bring the family and enjoy music, snacks, games and activities on McCoy's deck from 4:30 to 5:30pm each week. Special appearances by Riperoo, Snow Cats and the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol.

Beaver Creek On-Hill Story Time: Join the Buckaroo Bonanza Bunch Children's Theatre at the Ranch for for complimentary story timeon the hill. No skis, boards or lift ticket needed. For ages 3 to 6 on selected days.


Guided Nature Walk: Join a Walking Mountains Naturalist for a gentle educational hike through aspen and riparian communities. Learn about the ecoogy and animal adaptations of this mountain environment. Walks will be conducted on snowshoes as necessary due to snow levels. From 2 to 3pm every day at the Walking Mountains Science Center's campus in Avon. Visit their website.
